FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Patriots: B-. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Patriots took Jimmy Horn Jr. a full 90 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Emmanwori pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In slot 12 they get a red-zone target to build around at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick25
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a matchup problem out wide at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
They will replay Nick Emmanwori at the 38th pick for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Nothing to complain about; Jihaad Campbell went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick69
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
They read the board right and Alfred Collins was the payoff at pick 69. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick76
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
No drama and no debate, Ozzy Trapilo went about where he belonged in No. 76. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick106
Rnd4
Jordan Phillips
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Phillips at pick No. 106, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick144
Rnd5
Seth McLaughlin
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Seth McLaughlin well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick149
Rnd5
Ollie Gordon II
They reached into another round for Ollie Gordon II, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick217
Rnd7
Cam Jackson
Cam Jackson at pick 217 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick220
Rnd7
Bilhal Kone
Bilhal Kone in Round 7, Pick 4 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick238
Rnd7
Jimmy Horn Jr.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jimmy Horn Jr. this early at No. 238. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
