Boggy DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots

The Patriots left with their quarterback, and a B- to match. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Smith-Wade value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In slot 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Troy Franklin
No drama and no debate, Troy Franklin went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 2. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick68
Rnd3
Kingsley Suamataia
Kingsley Suamataia in No. 68 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick78
Rnd3
Cade Stover
Nothing to complain about; Cade Stover went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick137
Rnd5
Chau Smith-Wade
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Chau Smith-Wade in the 137th overall pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
