Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesC FutureC
Best value of the weekend goes to the Patriots for Smith-Wade: B-.

Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Patriots never addressed edge rusher, and it is the kind of gap that lingers.

On value alone, Smith-Wade makes the weekend a net positive. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Rome Odunze. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick23 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In the 23rd overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 Bo Nix
Bo Nix at pick No. 34 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Pick68 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at pick 68 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The roster fit checks out.
Pick103 Rnd4 Caelen Carson
Good price on Caelen Carson in the Round 4 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick108 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at slot 108 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick137 Rnd5 Malik Mustapha
A reasonable price with a little left over, Malik Mustapha in Round 5, Pick 1. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick180 Rnd6 Tahj Washington
No edge and no loss on Tahj Washington in the 180th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick193 Rnd6 Chau Smith-Wade
They barely believed it either: Chau Smith-Wade still on the board at pick No. 193. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick231 Rnd7 Darius Muasau
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Darius Muasau in the 231st pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
