Nobody else had Dont'e Thornton Jr. anywhere near pick 144. The Patriots did, by 38 spots, and that gap is the whole story. The bottom line is a respectable B.

They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Hairston pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
