Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB NeedA- TradesB- FutureB
More right than wrong for the Patriots, and a B to prove it.

For all the boxes ticked, the Patriots skipped the loudest one: safety is exactly as bare as it was. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

They banked enough surplus on Grant to cover a lot of smaller sins. Reaching for Thornton Jr. left real value on the table behind him. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In No. 4 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39 Rnd2 Emeka Egbuka
Emeka Egbuka in slot 39 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick69 Rnd3 Omarr Norman-Lott
Omarr Norman-Lott at pick No. 69 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick77 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
They read the board right and Quinshon Judkins was the payoff at the Round 3 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick106 Rnd4 Charles Grant
A quiet steal in the 106th overall pick: Charles Grant for less than the market said. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick144 Rnd5 Hollin Pierce
Nothing to complain about; Hollin Pierce went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick171 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A premium they did not need to pay, Dont'e Thornton Jr. a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
