FutureA+
The Patriots did the homework and the board rewarded it: A-. Some picks age like wine; Ethan Downs at the Round 7 slot will need to, sitting 52 spots clear of his grade. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.
Getting Ransom where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The Adonai Mitchell pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In the 14th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front at fair value.
Pick38
Rnd2
Tetairoa McMillan
They robbed the room for Tetairoa McMillan here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick69
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
They did well to land Donovan Jackson in No. 69, just ahead of his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick76
Rnd3
Jalen Royals
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jalen Royals at Round 3, Pick 12 is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick77
Rnd3
Elijah Arroyo
Nothing to complain about; Elijah Arroyo went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick80
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
No edge and no loss on Ozzy Trapilo in pick No. 80; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick106
Rnd4
Jack Bech
They will replay Jack Bech at the 106th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick144
Rnd5
Kaimon Rucker
Kaimon Rucker at slot 144 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick149
Rnd5
Lathan Ransom
The board fumbled Lathan Ransom all the way to Round 5, Pick 11, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick151
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
O'Donnell Fortune at pick No. 151 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick171
Rnd5
Damien Martinez
A slide stopped in No. 171, with Damien Martinez worth more than the price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick220
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey in the 220th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
Pick238
Rnd7
Ethan Downs
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ethan Downs. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
