Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the Patriots this weekend: B+.

The Patriots clearly saw something nobody else did in Dont'e Thornton Jr., taking him 38 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. That Grant pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Josh Conerly Jr.
In pick 25 they get a cornerstone up front, even if it was a touch early. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
They let Kenneth Grant come to them and pounced at No. 38. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick69 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
Fair-plus on Quinshon Judkins, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick81 Rnd3 Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte in pick No. 81 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick89 Rnd3 Chris Paul Jr.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Chris Paul Jr. at Round 3, Pick 25 is the proof. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick106 Rnd4 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at slot 106 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick119 Rnd4 Hollin Pierce
Hollin Pierce at the 119th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick144 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick No. 144 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
