Jackson should have been long gone. The Patriots pounced, and earned a B. You could see the war room lean forward. Ja'Quinden Jackson at pick 224 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Wyatt Milum
In No. 8 they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge at the 36th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick68
Rnd3
Luther Burden III
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Luther Burden III in pick No. 68, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick83
Rnd3
Jordan James
Jordan James at the Round 3 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
Pick94
Rnd3
Malaki Starks
They robbed the room for Malaki Starks here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick105
Rnd4
Jake Majors
They will replay Jake Majors at Round 4, Pick 4 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick142
Rnd5
Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins at pick 142 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick220
Rnd7
Karene Reid
The board fumbled Karene Reid all the way to slot 220, and they scooped it up. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick224
Rnd7
Ja'Quinden Jackson
Circle this one: Ja'Quinden Jackson at the 224th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick241
Rnd7
Logan Parr
Taking Logan Parr in pick No. 241 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
