FutureA
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Patriots a A-. Whoever sat across the table from the Patriots should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.
They are betting Walker proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Loveland falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Armand Membou
Armand Membou in the 14th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick38
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
Emeka Egbuka is a better player than the 38th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick45
Rnd2
Colston Loveland
Somehow Colston Loveland was still sitting there in No. 45, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick69
Rnd3
Jack Bech
Fair-plus on Jack Bech, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick77
Rnd3
David Walker
David Walker in pick 77 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick106
Rnd4
Zy Alexander
Value with a capital V on Zy Alexander in slot 106, a genuine coup. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick144
Rnd5
Kalel Mullings
A reach on Kalel Mullings in the Round 5 slot; the board had better options right there. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick217
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock at pick No. 217 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick232
Rnd7
Shemar James
Shemar James at pick 232 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick238
Rnd7
LaJohntay Wester
They paid up for LaJohntay Wester at the 238th pick when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
