Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Texans: B-.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Texans reached some 25 spots for Dylan Fairchild, and value like that does not grow back. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

Job largely done: running back settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In pick No. 25 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick58 Rnd2 Quinshon Judkins
They paid sticker price for Quinshon Judkins in No. 58, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick79 Rnd3 Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild at the Round 3 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick89 Rnd3 Gunnar Helm
No drama and no debate, Gunnar Helm went about where he belonged in pick 89. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick166 Rnd5 Ryan Fitzgerald
A tidy little value on Ryan Fitzgerald in the 166th pick, a step better than break-even. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick236 Rnd7 Carson Vinson
Carson Vinson at the 236th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick241 Rnd7 Bilhal Kone
Bilhal Kone slipping to the Round 7 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
