Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall C+
ValueC- NeedB TradesC FutureB-
A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The Patriots get a C+.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Patriots would have aced it. Reid Carrico at the 224th overall pick is 119 spots clear of where he belonged. It washes out to a C+, no better and no worse.

A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. That Scott pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

If Anthony Hill Jr. and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick42 Rnd2 Anthony Hill Jr.
A tidy little value on Anthony Hill Jr. in pick No. 42, a step better than break-even. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick55 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
A straight-up fair deal on Dillon Thieneman at No. 55, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick70 Rnd3 Kenyatta Jackson Jr.
Kenyatta Jackson Jr. in the 70th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick86 Rnd3 Charles Jagusah
A wild overpay on Charles Jagusah in pick 86, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick113 Rnd4 Xavier Scott
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Xavier Scott at the Round 4 slot. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick121 Rnd4 Jude Bowry
No drama and no debate, Jude Bowry went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 21. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick131 Rnd4 Darius Taylor
Darius Taylor at Round 4, Pick 31 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick197 Rnd6 Princewill Umanmielen
A real head-scratcher, Princewill Umanmielen in pick 197 is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick202 Rnd6 Lawson Luckie
A big swing on Lawson Luckie at No. 202, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick218 Rnd6 Brandon Inniss
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Brandon Inniss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick224 Rnd7 Reid Carrico
Value said wait; Reid Carrico in the Round 7 slot says they were not listening. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick241 Rnd7 Evan Tengesdahl
This one needs a full-page explanation: Evan Tengesdahl in slot 241, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
