Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall C
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Patriots left with their quarterback, and a C to match.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Bo Nix is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. It lands right in the middle: a C, no more, no less.

If Anderson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Dixon falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

So much rides on Bo Nix that the real verdict is a season or two away.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Bo Nix
Bo Nix in No. 27 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick34 Rnd2 Ladd McConkey
By-the-book stuff, Ladd McConkey at pick No. 34 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick35 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette at pick 35 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick44 Rnd2 Keon Coleman
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Keon Coleman. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick66 Rnd3 Kingsley Suamataia
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kingsley Suamataia in the Round 3 slot. The roster fit checks out.
Pick68 Rnd3 Patrick Paul
They took Patrick Paul at par in the 68th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick108 Rnd4 Leonard Taylor III
No drama and no debate, Leonard Taylor III went about where he belonged in slot 108. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick129 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
Nothing to complain about; Johnny Wilson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick137 Rnd5 Mason McCormick
Mason McCormick at the 137th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick180 Rnd6 Fabien Lovett
They paid sticker price for Fabien Lovett in slot 180, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick186 Rnd6 Ty'Ron Hopper
Ty'Ron Hopper at pick 186 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick193 Rnd6 Trente Jones
A straight-up fair deal on Trente Jones at pick No. 193, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick231 Rnd7 Johnny Dixon
Steal is underselling it; Johnny Dixon at the 231st overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick232 Rnd7 Evan Anderson
They reached a country mile for Evan Anderson at Round 7, Pick 12, and the board is aghast. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
