TradesA+
FutureA+
The Patriots bet the future on Nix. The board says A-. The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Bo Nix, and the whole operation now runs on his development. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. They banked enough surplus on Jackson to cover a lot of smaller sins.
The Hunt pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots still on the board. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Bo Nix and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Bo Nix
In the 25th overall pick they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
Tyler Guyton in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick41
Rnd2
Brian Thomas Jr.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Brian Thomas Jr. at the 41st pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick59
Rnd2
Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at pick No. 59 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick68
Rnd3
Adisa Isaac
They did well to land Adisa Isaac in pick 68, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick104
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
Nothing to complain about; Blake Fisher went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick124
Rnd4
Jalyx Hunt
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Jalyx Hunt at S-EDGE with interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots open.
Pick136
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
A want over a need in Round 4, Pick 36: Khyree Jackson adds a cornerback while interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick161
Rnd5
Kamal Hadden
They will replay Kamal Hadden at slot 161 for years; that is how good the value is. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick182
Rnd6
Isaiah Davis
Isaiah Davis in the Round 6 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick229
Rnd7
J.J. Weaver
J.J. Weaver at the 229th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
