Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Patriots finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B-.

The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They are betting Wiley proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In the Round 1 slot they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Morgan at pick 34 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick69 Rnd3 Devontez Walker
Devontez Walker in No. 69 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick102 Rnd4 Trey Benson
Good price on Trey Benson in Round 4, Pick 2, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick143 Rnd5 Cam Hart
The board fumbled Cam Hart all the way to slot 143, and they scooped it up. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick179 Rnd6 Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley at pick No. 179 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
Pick231 Rnd7 Trevin Wallace
No edge and no loss on Trevin Wallace in the 231st overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick248 Rnd7 Andrew Coker
They took Andrew Coker at par in the 248th pick, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
