The Patriots kept it disciplined and banked a B-.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Akheem Mesidor at pick No. 31 is 30 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.

They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. However the rest shakes out, Slaughter at that price is a win they earned. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Akheem Mesidor
In pick 31 they get a premier pass rusher, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick63 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jake Slaughter in No. 63. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick95 Rnd3 Caden Curry
Caden Curry in Round 3, Pick 31 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick125 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
Value with a capital V on Bryce Lance in the 125th pick, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick131 Rnd4 Jakobe Thomas
Jakobe Thomas in slot 131 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick169 Rnd5 Rayshaun Benny
A premium they did not need to pay, Rayshaun Benny a notch or two before his time. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick189 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at the 189th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick200 Rnd6 Joey Aguilar
Joey Aguilar at pick 200 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick207 Rnd6 Dominic Zvada
A real head-scratcher, Dominic Zvada in slot 207 is miles ahead of his ranking. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick210 Rnd6 Jacobe Johnson
Jacobe Johnson at the Round 6 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick247 Rnd7 Eric Gentry
They reached into another round for Eric Gentry, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
