FutureC-
The Patriots worked the phones like thieves and earned a B. The Patriots clearly saw something nobody else did in Eric O'Neill, taking him 54 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The Igbinosun pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback and tight end still on the board. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Hill Jr. steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick41
Rnd2
Chris Johnson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Chris Johnson at the 41st pick is the proof. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick54
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
They read the board right and Anthony Hill Jr. was the payoff at Round 2, Pick 22. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick72
Rnd3
Caden Curry
They reached into another round for Caden Curry, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick125
Rnd4
Dametrious Crownover
Dametrious Crownover at pick 125 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick131
Rnd4
Jakobe Thomas
A straight-up fair deal on Jakobe Thomas at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick138
Rnd4
Kaytron Allen
They paid sticker price for Kaytron Allen in the 138th overall pick, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick139
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Davison Igbinosun adds a cornerback and leaves quarterback and tight end untouched.
Pick171
Rnd5
Kaleb Elarms-Orr
Kaleb Elarms-Orr at pick No. 171 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick191
Rnd6
Bobby Jamison-Travis
They paid up for Bobby Jamison-Travis at Round 6, Pick 10 when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick202
Rnd6
Harrison Wallace III
Harrison Wallace III slid further than he should have, and the 202nd pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick209
Rnd6
Eric O'Neill
Eric O'Neill at slot 209 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick212
Rnd6
Jack Kelly
A real head-scratcher, Jack Kelly in No. 212 is miles ahead of his ranking. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick247
Rnd7
CJ Donaldson
They left a pile of value on the table to take CJ Donaldson this early at the 247th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
