Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
D-
ValueB

TradesF
FutureB-
The phones sank the Patriots this weekend: D-. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Patriots shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.
The Mills pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Getting Aguero where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Keldric Faulk
In the 12th pick they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick44
Rnd2
Cayden Green
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cayden Green. The roster fit checks out.
Pick76
Rnd3
D'Angelo Ponds
A conviction pick on D'Angelo Ponds at pick 76 that the board grades a round light. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick90
Rnd3
Isaiah Nwokobia
A reach for Isaiah Nwokobia in Round 3, Pick 26; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick112
Rnd4
Monroe Mills
They talked themselves into Monroe Mills at pick No. 112, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick125
Rnd4
Nic Anderson
No drama and no debate, Nic Anderson went about where he belonged in No. 125. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick129
Rnd4
Jaden Greathouse
Jaden Greathouse at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick138
Rnd4
Austin Romaine
They barely believed it either: Austin Romaine still on the board at slot 138. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick151
Rnd5
Le'Veon Moss
By-the-book stuff, Le'Veon Moss at No. 151 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick152
Rnd5
Braylan Shelby
Braylan Shelby at slot 152 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick177
Rnd6
Bryce Foster
A straight-up fair deal on Bryce Foster at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick190
Rnd6
Lawson Luckie
They paid a round early for Lawson Luckie in Round 6, Pick 14, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick214
Rnd6
Aidan Chiles
They will replay Aidan Chiles at the 214th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick218
Rnd7
Joenel Aguero
Joenel Aguero at pick 218 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick225
Rnd7
Jack Velling
Jack Velling slipping to pick No. 225 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
