The Patriots lost the trade table, and the D+ tells the story.

Nobody had Patrick Payton this high, and it is not close. The Patriots reached 39 spots to get him at Round 6, Pick 15.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Getting Tate where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
