Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Patriots turned the phones into found money: B+.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Nico Iamaleava slide 44 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.

The Johnson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.

A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Talanoa Hufanga deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Christen Miller
In No. 32 they get a load in the middle, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick62 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter in pick No. 62 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick94 Rnd3 Nyck Harbor
Nyck Harbor at slot 94 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick96 Rnd3 Harold Perkins Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Harold Perkins Jr. at pick 96, value and slot in agreement. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick124 Rnd4 Chris Johnson
Good price on Chris Johnson in the 124th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick130 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
Bryce Lance at the Round 4 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick170 Rnd5 Max Iheanachor
Max Iheanachor at the 170th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick192 Rnd6 Bud Clark
They paid a round early for Bud Clark in No. 192, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick199 Rnd6 Mark Fletcher Jr.
Mark Fletcher Jr. in Round 6, Pick 19 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The roster fit checks out.
Pick207 Rnd6 Nico Iamaleava
Somehow Nico Iamaleava was still sitting there in pick No. 207, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick210 Rnd6 Jaren Kanak
Jaren Kanak at the Round 6 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick245 Rnd7 Jacobe Johnson
Jacobe Johnson in the 245th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
