Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall

TradesB-
FutureB-
The Patriots did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Patriots took Keyron Crawford a full 30 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
The phones were busy but the ledger stayed level.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Zion Young
In No. 31 they get a bendy edge with upside, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick63
Rnd2
Omar Cooper Jr.
They paid a round early for Omar Cooper Jr. in Round 2, Pick 31, more than the board wanted. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick95
Rnd3
Caden Curry
A conviction pick on Caden Curry at slot 95 that the board grades a round light. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick125
Rnd4
Logan Jones
Logan Jones in the 125th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick131
Rnd4
Jakobe Thomas
Jakobe Thomas in pick No. 131 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick156
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
Nothing to complain about; Davison Igbinosun went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick189
Rnd6
Keyshaun Elliott
By-the-book stuff, Keyshaun Elliott at Round 6, Pick 10 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick200
Rnd6
Cole Payton
No edge and no loss on Cole Payton in slot 200; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick207
Rnd6
Keyron Crawford
Keyron Crawford at pick No. 207 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick247
Rnd7
Will Kacmarek
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Will Kacmarek. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
