Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedB

FutureA
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Patriots. There is reaching, and then there is Davin Vann at slot 220. The Patriots jumped the board by 54 and dared it to prove them wrong.
They banked enough surplus on Brooks to cover a lot of smaller sins. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In slot 17 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Luther Burden III
They let Luther Burden III come to them and pounced at Round 2, Pick 6. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick49
Rnd2
Tre Harris
They paid a round early for Tre Harris in the Round 2 slot, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick69
Rnd3
Jordan Burch
They reached into another round for Jordan Burch, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick77
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
By-the-book stuff, Andrew Mukuba at the 77th pick squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick81
Rnd3
Cameron Williams
Cameron Williams slid further than he should have, and the 81st overall pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick106
Rnd4
Denzel Burke
They paid up for Denzel Burke at pick 106 when waiting would have done the job. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick144
Rnd5
Barryn Sorrell
They reached a country mile for Barryn Sorrell at No. 144, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick217
Rnd7
Tahj Brooks
Tahj Brooks in Round 7, Pick 1 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick220
Rnd7
Davin Vann
Davin Vann in pick No. 220 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick238
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
