SD DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots

FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Patriots a B-. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Patriots spent pick No. 210 on Eric Gentry, a name the board had a full 59 spots lower.
Landing Lew that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. With quarterback unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In pick No. 31 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick74
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
Taking A.J. Haulcy in pick 74 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick95
Rnd3
Connor Lew
They will replay Connor Lew at No. 95 for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick109
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
No edge and no loss on Tacario Davis in the 109th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick125
Rnd4
Chase Roberts
They reached a country mile for Chase Roberts at Round 4, Pick 25, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick131
Rnd4
Treydan Stukes
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 131st overall pick on Treydan Stukes with quarterback unsolved.
Pick146
Rnd5
Aaron Graves
They went early on Aaron Graves in slot 146, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick169
Rnd5
Rayshaun Benny
Rayshaun Benny in pick No. 169 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick189
Rnd6
Keyron Crawford
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Keyron Crawford well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick200
Rnd6
London Humphreys
This one needs a full-page explanation: London Humphreys in the Round 6 slot, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick207
Rnd6
Will Kacmarek
They left a pile of value on the table to take Will Kacmarek this early at the 207th pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick210
Rnd6
Eric Gentry
Eric Gentry at Round 6, Pick 31 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick247
Rnd7
Roman Hemby
They talked themselves into Roman Hemby at pick 247, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
