SD DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B-
ValueB

TradesB-
FutureB-
The Patriots kept it disciplined and banked a B-. It is a puzzling start. The Patriots had edge rusher and interior defensive lineman to solve and reached instead for Chris Johnson, a cornerback, at pick No. 118. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. That is a tight end worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Mansoor Delane
In slot 30 they get a lockdown presence outside, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Pick62
Rnd2
Elijah Sarratt
A clean, defensible pick in Round 2, Pick 30 with a little surplus value in Elijah Sarratt. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick94
Rnd3
Caleb Tiernan
No edge and no loss on Caleb Tiernan in pick 94; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick118
Rnd4
Chris Johnson
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Chris Johnson at cornerback with edge rusher and interior defensive lineman open.
Pick130
Rnd4
Bray Hubbard
Bray Hubbard in the 130th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick170
Rnd5
Tanner Koziol
A tidy bit of business in No. 170, where Tanner Koziol graded well above the range. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick195
Rnd6
Mark Fletcher Jr.
They paid sticker price for Mark Fletcher Jr. in slot 195, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick209
Rnd6
DeAndre Moore Jr.
A reach on DeAndre Moore Jr. in the 209th overall pick; the board had better options right there. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick215
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
A conviction pick on Trey Zuhn III at the Round 7 slot that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick244
Rnd7
Diego Pavia
Nothing to complain about; Diego Pavia went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
