The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Sam Leavitt, the No. 36 name on the board, sitting there at slot 76 like a gift left on the doorstep. The bottom line is a respectable B+.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They are betting Leckner proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
