Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Patriots did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

The war room fell hard for Jalen Thompson, and it showed at the Round 7 slot: 57 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Royer. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Denzel Boston
In slot 30 they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick73 Rnd3 Keith Abney II
A reach on Keith Abney II in the 73rd pick; the board had better options right there. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick94 Rnd3 Joe Royer
The board had Joe Royer higher than Round 3, Pick 30, and the tight end fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Pick110 Rnd4 Chris Johnson
A premium they did not need to pay, Chris Johnson a notch or two before his time. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick124 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
Bryce Lance at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick130 Rnd4 Bray Hubbard
A conviction pick on Bray Hubbard at No. 130 that the board grades a round light. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick170 Rnd5 Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez at Round 5, Pick 30 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick190 Rnd6 Gracen Halton
They paid up for Gracen Halton at the 190th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick192 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III in No. 192 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick199 Rnd6 Taylen Green
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Taylen Green at the Round 6 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick207 Rnd6 Mark Fletcher Jr.
Mark Fletcher Jr. at pick No. 207 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick210 Rnd6 Pat Coogan
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Pat Coogan well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick245 Rnd7 Jalen Thompson
They reached into another round for Jalen Thompson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
