Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
C+
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Patriots to a C+. The Patriots treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 224th pick on Haynes King a full 57 spots early.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
That Stewart pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Gennings Dunker
In pick 22 they get a long-term starter on the line. A real need, handled.
Pick55
Rnd2
Elijah Sarratt
Elijah Sarratt is a better player than No. 55 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick86
Rnd3
Michael Taaffe
Circle this one: Michael Taaffe at the Round 3 slot is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick113
Rnd4
Jadarian Price
They went early on Jadarian Price in pick No. 113, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick121
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
They let Tacario Davis come to them and pounced at slot 121. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick159
Rnd5
Vincent Anthony Jr.
Vincent Anthony Jr. at Round 5, Pick 20 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick197
Rnd6
Jaren Kanak
Jaren Kanak in Round 6, Pick 14 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick202
Rnd6
Evan Stewart
The board fumbled Evan Stewart all the way to the Round 6 slot, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick224
Rnd7
Haynes King
Haynes King at the 224th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick241
Rnd7
Elliot Washington II
The board had cheaper options than Elliot Washington II at slot 241, and it noticed. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
