Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
D
ValueB

FutureB-
The Patriots got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Patriots spent pick No. 225 on Jamari Lyons, a name most had 42 spots down the list. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. However the rest shakes out, Chiles at that price is a win they earned.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Keldric Faulk
Fair-plus on Keldric Faulk, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick44
Rnd2
Gennings Dunker
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Gennings Dunker in the 44th pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick76
Rnd3
Elijah Sarratt
Nice patience on Elijah Sarratt, who had no business lasting to slot 76. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick90
Rnd3
D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds in No. 90 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick112
Rnd4
Isaiah Nwokobia
A quiet steal in pick 112: Isaiah Nwokobia for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick125
Rnd4
Austin Romaine
Austin Romaine at Round 4, Pick 23 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick129
Rnd4
Jaden Greathouse
Value with a capital V on Jaden Greathouse in slot 129, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick143
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Davison Igbinosun. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick151
Rnd5
Luke Hasz
The board had Luke Hasz higher than pick 151, and the tight end fell to them anyway. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick190
Rnd6
Fernando Carmona
Fernando Carmona at the 190th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick218
Rnd7
Aidan Chiles
Aidan Chiles slid further than he should have, and No. 218 is lovely value for the quarterback. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick225
Rnd7
Jamari Lyons
They reached into another round for Jamari Lyons, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick226
Rnd7
Jack Velling
A clean, defensible pick in the 226th pick with a little surplus value in Jack Velling. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
