SD DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Patriots. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Patriots did exactly that with Da'Shawn Womack in the 244th pick. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
However the rest shakes out, Hood at that price is a win they earned. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
With interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
In slot 25 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick60
Rnd2
Malik Muhammad
Malik Muhammad in pick 60 is fair value, right on his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick91
Rnd3
Colton Hood
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots still to address, they spent Round 3, Pick 27 on Colton Hood, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick116
Rnd4
Kaytron Allen
A slide stopped in the 116th pick, with Kaytron Allen worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick126
Rnd4
Boubacar Traore
Boubacar Traore at the Round 4 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick166
Rnd5
Max Iheanachor
Fair-plus on Max Iheanachor, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick195
Rnd6
Jaren Kanak
They paid a round early for Jaren Kanak in the 195th overall pick, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
Pick208
Rnd6
DeAndre Moore Jr.
No drama and no debate, DeAndre Moore Jr. went about where he belonged in the 208th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick221
Rnd7
Elliot Washington II
Elliot Washington II in slot 221 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick244
Rnd7
Da'Shawn Womack
A big swing on Da'Shawn Womack at No. 244, well ahead of any board in the building. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
