FutureB
Good, not great, for the Patriots: B+. The Elliot Washington II pick is the one that will follow the Patriots into the fall. They took him 60 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Banks. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick65
Rnd3
Caleb Banks
Caleb Banks in the 65th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick94
Rnd3
Max Klare
Somehow Max Klare was still sitting there in pick 94, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick123
Rnd4
Bray Hubbard
They liked Bray Hubbard enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 4 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick130
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
Bryce Lance slid further than he should have, and No. 130 is lovely value for the wide receiver. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick170
Rnd5
Max Iheanachor
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Max Iheanachor at pick No. 170 is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick179
Rnd5
Rayshaun Benny
A conviction pick on Rayshaun Benny at Round 5, Pick 39 that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick197
Rnd6
DeAndre Moore Jr.
This one needs a full-page explanation: DeAndre Moore Jr. in pick No. 197, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick202
Rnd6
Elliot Washington II
Elliot Washington II at the 202nd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
