Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall C+
ValueC+ NeedB TradesC FutureB-
Flashes of a plan, unevenly executed. Patriots: C+.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: Drew Kendall in pick No. 238, a good 55 spots before the room expected him.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. However the rest shakes out, Egbuka at that price is a win they earned. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.

Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.

If Will Campbell and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Will Campbell
In the 4th overall pick they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Emeka Egbuka
They read the board right and Emeka Egbuka was the payoff at slot 38. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick69 Rnd3 Dylan Sampson
Dylan Sampson in No. 69 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick77 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
No edge and no loss on Ozzy Trapilo in Round 3, Pick 13; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick106 Rnd4 Jeffrey Bassa
Jeffrey Bassa at pick No. 106 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick144 Rnd5 Kyle Williams
They reached a country mile for Kyle Williams at the Round 5 slot, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick171 Rnd5 Quincy Riley
They liked Quincy Riley enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 171. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick220 Rnd7 Cam Horsley
Cam Horsley in pick No. 220 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick238 Rnd7 Drew Kendall
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Drew Kendall. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
