Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Patriots, and a B- to prove it. You could see the war room lean forward. Drew Allar at the 192nd pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Zuhn III has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Spending an early pick on cornerback with edge rusher open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
In pick No. 30 they get a seam-stretching tight end. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick62
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at pick 62 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick94
Rnd3
Keith Abney II
A slide stopped in slot 94, with Keith Abney II worth more than the price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick124
Rnd4
Chris Johnson
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Chris Johnson while clear needs at edge rusher sat open.
Pick130
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
Bryce Lance at the 130th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick170
Rnd5
Rayshaun Benny
They reached into another round for Rayshaun Benny, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick192
Rnd6
Drew Allar
Drew Allar at Round 6, Pick 12 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick199
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
They talked themselves into Trey Zuhn III at the Round 6 slot, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick207
Rnd6
Mark Fletcher Jr.
They paid sticker price for Mark Fletcher Jr. in No. 207, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick210
Rnd6
Isaiah Nwokobia
Isaiah Nwokobia at pick No. 210 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick245
Rnd7
Daevin Hobbs
Daevin Hobbs at pick 245 is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
