Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall

ValueB

FutureB-
The Patriots robbed the room for Mondon Jr.. Final grade: B-. The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Smael Mondon Jr., pick 144, roughly 102 picks past where he belonged. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Reaching for Wedig left real value on the table behind him. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Travis Hunter
They paid sticker price for Travis Hunter in the 3rd pick, and that is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick41
Rnd2
Jack Sawyer
Jack Sawyer at pick No. 41 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick72
Rnd3
Sonny Styles
The board fumbled Sonny Styles all the way to the 72nd overall pick, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick86
Rnd3
Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild at No. 86 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It fills a real need, too.
Pick108
Rnd4
Omarion Hampton
Steal is underselling it; Omarion Hampton at slot 108 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick144
Rnd5
Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. in pick 144 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick218
Rnd7
Trey Wedig
Trey Wedig in Round 7, Pick 4 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick220
Rnd7
Julian Fleming
Julian Fleming at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick236
Rnd7
Bryce Foster
Bryce Foster at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick256
Rnd7
Shilo Sanders
A safety of that caliber at the 256th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
