Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall C+
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureA+
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Patriots to a C+.

Somebody took the Patriots to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. It nets out a thoroughly average C+.

Every board in the league had Jackson lower, and that gap is the story. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

However the rest shakes out, Ransaw at that price is a win they earned. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Mykel Williams
In pick No. 24 they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick38 Rnd2 Donovan Jackson
A big swing on Donovan Jackson at the 38th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Pick69 Rnd3 Dylan Sampson
A tidy little value on Dylan Sampson in pick 69, a step better than break-even. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick77 Rnd3 Elic Ayomanor
Value with a capital V on Elic Ayomanor in No. 77, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick97 Rnd3 Anthony Belton
They paid a round early for Anthony Belton in the Round 3 slot, more than the board wanted. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick106 Rnd4 Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson at slot 106 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick144 Rnd5 Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore at the 144th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick217 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Luke Lachey in Round 7, Pick 1. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick220 Rnd7 Caleb Ransaw
They let Caleb Ransaw come to them and pounced at pick 220. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick238 Rnd7 Jamon Dumas-Johnson
They took Jamon Dumas-Johnson at par in Round 7, Pick 22, which is nothing to complain about. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
