Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Patriots were there to profit. Monroe Freeling, the No. 49 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 116. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.

The James reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

The Malik Hooker deal gives the class an established piece to lean on. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
