The Patriots fleeced the room on the phones and earned a A-. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Patriots did exactly that with Graham Mertz in the Round 7 slot. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
On value alone, James makes the weekend a net positive. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The Patriots clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
In the end it comes back to Abdul Carter, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
