Best value of the weekend goes to the Patriots for Singleton: A. You build a draft on nights like this. Nicholas Singleton had no business being available in Round 5, Pick 2, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. Every board in the league had Webb lower, and that gap is the story.
In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
James Pearce Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a bendy edge with upside, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick45
Rnd2
Josh Conerly Jr.
A conviction pick on Josh Conerly Jr. at slot 45 that the board grades a round light. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick66
Rnd3
Clay Webb
A big swing on Clay Webb at the 66th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick77
Rnd3
Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock slid further than he should have, and the 77th overall pick is lovely value for the cornerback. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick130
Rnd5
Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton in Round 5, Pick 2 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Pick194
Rnd7
Noah Thomas
They jumped the gun on Noah Thomas, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
