The Patriots checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

The Patriots went off the board in a big way for Jalen Travis, 49 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The Sanker value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Tetairoa McMillan
In No. 4 they get a weapon on the perimeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick38 Rnd2 Donovan Ezeiruaku
Donovan Ezeiruaku at the Round 2 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick69 Rnd3 Anthony Belton
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Anthony Belton well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick77 Rnd3 Charles Grant
A premium they did not need to pay, Charles Grant a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick106 Rnd4 Cam Skattebo
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cam Skattebo in slot 106. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick144 Rnd5 Jonas Sanker
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jonas Sanker at Round 5, Pick 6 is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick217 Rnd7 Bilhal Kone
Bilhal Kone in pick No. 217 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick220 Rnd7 Shemar James
They left a pile of value on the table to take Shemar James this early at slot 220. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick238 Rnd7 Jalen Travis
Jalen Travis at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
