The Patriots let Burke fall into their laps, and walked away with a C.

You could see the war room lean forward. Denzel Burke at pick No. 66 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It lands right in the middle: a C, no more, no less.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Trading back for volume was the quiet throughline of their weekend.

If Will Campbell and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
