Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Patriots won the night they stopped James from sliding. Grade: B-.

Thirty-one other rooms let Jordan James slide, and the Patriots were the ones holding the card at No. 72. Highway robbery. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

Dellinger has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Will Campbell
In pick No. 6 they get a long-term starter on the line, though the board says they badly overpaid.
Pick41 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
Circle this one: Nick Emmanwori at No. 41 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick72 Rnd3 Jordan James
Jordan James in the 72nd overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick86 Rnd3 Tyler Warren
A tight end of that caliber at the Round 3 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick97 Rnd3 Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant in the 97th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick144 Rnd5 Chris Paul Jr.
Chris Paul Jr. at Round 5, Pick 6 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick223 Rnd7 Garrett Dellinger
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Garrett Dellinger. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick239 Rnd7 Aydan White
This one needs a full-page explanation: Aydan White in slot 239, miles early. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
