Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall A-
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB+ FutureA+
The Patriots cashed the board's mistake on Weigman: A-.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Patriots were there to profit. Conner Weigman, the No. 146 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 218th pick. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.

The trade work was a quiet net positive. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.

Bottom line, with Tate Ratledge leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Tate Ratledge
In the 30th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick41 Rnd2 Luther Burden III
The board had Luther Burden III higher than pick 41, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick49 Rnd2 Jonah Savaiinaea
Jonah Savaiinaea in pick No. 49 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick72 Rnd3 Deone Walker
They barely believed it either: Deone Walker still on the board at Round 3, Pick 8. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick80 Rnd3 Jason Marshall Jr.
You do not let a cornerback like Jason Marshall Jr. reach the Round 3 slot and blink. They did not. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick86 Rnd3 Dylan Sampson
Dylan Sampson in No. 86 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick94 Rnd3 Luke Kandra
Luke Kandra in the 94th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick108 Rnd4 David Bailey
David Bailey slid further than he should have, and slot 108 is lovely value for the edge rusher. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick144 Rnd5 Riley Mahlman
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick 144 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick164 Rnd5 Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant in slot 164 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick218 Rnd7 Conner Weigman
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Conner Weigman in No. 218, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick220 Rnd7 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 220th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick236 Rnd7 Aubrey Burks
Aubrey Burks at pick No. 236 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick256 Rnd7 Terrance Ferguson
Terrance Ferguson in Round 7, Pick 42 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
