The Patriots won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B.

Somebody in slot 231 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Johnny Dixon, the No. 191 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. The bottom line is a respectable B.

Reed has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

In slot 11 they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick23 Rnd1 Troy Fautanu
In the 23rd overall pick they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.

In the 27th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.

They paid sticker price for Troy Franklin in No. 33, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.

Jordan Morgan in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.

No drama and no debate, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. went about where he belonged in pick No. 68. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.

Quietly one of the better values of the day, Caelen Carson at the 103rd overall pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.

Jordan Travis at pick 137 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
