Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B+

Grand theft in pick No. 142: the Patriots steal Higgins and grade out a B+.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Patriots were there to profit. Jay Higgins, the No. 61 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 142. No fireworks, but a solid B+.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The cost of the Lacy reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Will Campbell
In pick 11 they get an anchor for the offensive line, reach and all.
Pick36 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Omarion Hampton in slot 36, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick68 Rnd3 Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore at Round 3, Pick 4 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick83 Rnd3 Harold Fannin Jr.
Harold Fannin Jr. in pick No. 83 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick105 Rnd4 Alfred Collins
Fair-plus on Alfred Collins, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick142 Rnd5 Jay Higgins
You do not let a linebacker like Jay Higgins reach the 142nd pick and blink. They did not. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick220 Rnd7 Miles Frazier
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 220th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick224 Rnd7 Kyren Lacy
A big swing on Kyren Lacy at No. 224, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick241 Rnd7 Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. at No. 241 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
