The Cody Simon selection is the head-turner. The Patriots reached 30 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

That James pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it. Adding DK Metcalf by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
