The Patriots let Schwesinger fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-.

The Patriots did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Carson Schwesinger fell into slot 219. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

Reaching for Mertz left real value on the table behind him. The phones were where this weekend was really won.

They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
