Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Patriots worked the phones like thieves and earned a B.

You could see the war room lean forward. M.J. Devonshire at the Round 7 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

The Reed pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.

They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 JC Latham
In the 11th pick they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
Pick23 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In pick No. 23 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick34 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
They jumped the gun on Cooper Beebe, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick39 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat in the 39th pick is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick68 Rnd3 Jermaine Burton
Jermaine Burton at No. 68 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick103 Rnd4 Cam Hart
They did well to land Cam Hart in the 103rd overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick137 Rnd5 Christian Jones
Christian Jones at the Round 5 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick180 Rnd6 Dwight McGlothern
Taking Dwight McGlothern in pick 180 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick193 Rnd6 Tahj Washington
Nothing to complain about; Tahj Washington went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick231 Rnd7 M.J. Devonshire
M.J. Devonshire in Round 7, Pick 11 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick232 Rnd7 Austin Reed
Austin Reed in pick No. 232 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
