Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The Patriots robbed the room for Milroe. Final grade: D.

Nobody else had Clay Webb anywhere near the Round 2 slot. The Patriots did, by 33 spots, and that gap is the whole story.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Milroe pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Will Campbell
Will Campbell at slot 7 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick34 Rnd2 Tre Harris
A reach for Tre Harris in the 34th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick39 Rnd2 Clay Webb
They reached a country mile for Clay Webb at the Round 2 slot, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
Pick66 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge at pick No. 66 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The roster fit checks out.
Pick71 Rnd3 Jalen Milroe
Circle this one: Jalen Milroe at pick No. 71 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick72 Rnd3 Quincy Riley
A reach on Quincy Riley in the 72nd pick; the board had better options right there. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick98 Rnd4 Shilo Sanders
Shilo Sanders in slot 98 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick126 Rnd4 Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. slid further than he should have, and the 126th overall pick is lovely value for the linebacker. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick140 Rnd5 DJ Giddens
Taking DJ Giddens in Round 5, Pick 12 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick194 Rnd7 CJ Dippre
A premium they did not need to pay, CJ Dippre a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
