Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall D
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The Patriots lost the trade table, and the D tells the story.

The Patriots looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Jonah Monheim at slot 96 regardless, 36 picks early. The math is unkind, and the D follows.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Lachey at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Tetairoa McMillan
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get a true top target at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Booker at the 34th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick39 Rnd2 Xavier Nwankpa
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Nwankpa at No. 39 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick40 Rnd2 Josh Conerly Jr.
They jumped the gun on Josh Conerly Jr., taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick66 Rnd3 Luke Lachey
A slide stopped in the 66th pick, with Luke Lachey worth more than the price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick71 Rnd3 Jordan Hancock
They did well to land Jordan Hancock in pick 71, just ahead of his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick96 Rnd3 Jonah Monheim
They reached a country mile for Jonah Monheim at slot 96, and the board is aghast. The roster fit checks out.
Pick130 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
They took Davison Igbinosun at par in the 130th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick194 Rnd7 Jonathan Mendoza
Nothing to complain about; Jonathan Mendoza went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick224 Rnd7 Chris Marshall
They liked Chris Marshall enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 224. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
