Dart should have been long gone. The Patriots pounced, and earned a B. The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jaxson Dart, the No. 56 name on the board, in No. 139.
The Majors reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In pick No. 5 they get a blindside protector at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Emery Jones Jr.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 36 with a little surplus value in Emery Jones Jr.. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick67
Rnd3
Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick69
Rnd3
Jay Higgins
They paid a round early for Jay Higgins in pick 69, more than the board wanted. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick93
Rnd3
Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant at Round 3, Pick 29 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick103
Rnd4
Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore slid further than he should have, and the 103rd overall pick is lovely value for the safety. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick139
Rnd5
Jaxson Dart
Circle this one: Jaxson Dart at slot 139 is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick217
Rnd7
Kyren Lacy
Kyren Lacy in the 217th pick is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick220
Rnd7
Ar'maj Reed-Adams
Ar'maj Reed-Adams at slot 220 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
Pick235
Rnd7
Jake Majors
They talked themselves into Jake Majors at the 235th overall pick, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
