FutureA+
The Patriots cashed the board's mistake on Skattebo: B. Call it larceny. Cam Skattebo sat on the board until the 212th pick, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The Roberts reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In pick 12 they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick38
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Taking Omarion Hampton in No. 38 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick42
Rnd2
Nic Scourton
Nic Scourton at Round 2, Pick 10 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick81
Rnd3
Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter in slot 81 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick143
Rnd5
Jaeden Roberts
The board had cheaper options than Jaeden Roberts at the 143rd pick, and it noticed. The roster fit checks out.
Pick212
Rnd6
Cam Skattebo
Steal is underselling it; Cam Skattebo at the Round 6 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick220
Rnd7
Jamon Dumas-Johnson
They will replay Jamon Dumas-Johnson at pick No. 220 for years; that is how good the value is. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick238
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey at the 238th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick251
Rnd7
Shilo Sanders
Shilo Sanders in No. 251 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick254
Rnd7
Hunter Wohler
Hunter Wohler in the 254th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
