There is conviction, and then there is this. The Patriots took Fernando Carmona a full 104 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.

They banked enough surplus on Lawson to cover a lot of smaller sins. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
